When someone begins an album concept they tend to go on ideas, inspirations, experiences. All things that will allow a composer to take a listener on a musical journey when listening to that album. The symphony, Human is an example of displaying one's experiences and allowing others to go for the ride and equate their similar experiences and emotions. The Navidad project has taken a more simple approach.

Patience, intimacy, simplicity and relaxation are all captured within this suite of solo piano holiday songs. The interesting piece of this solo piano album (Matt's first since 1997) is this will show the root from which most of the songs on the complimentary orchestral album originated. Every orchestration begins somewhere, Matt's begin on the piano. The Contrabass, cello, bassoon, oboe, and other instruments usually take on the left hand of these piano songs. The higher winds, violas, violins and voices take on the right hand, melodic side.

This album is solo piano, nothing else. This offers the listener a degree of intimacy and an opportunity to feel the emotion that is put into each song at it's root. Matt plays with patience and the slowness of the tempos make for a relaxing holiday album. (back to albums)
