Meaning

The symphony Human is Matt's debut in the orchestral world. This 8 movement symphony gives the listener a unique opportunity to focus on their defining moments in life. Each movement represents a different strong emotion one experiences in their lifetime.

The idea hit Matt in 1998 while traveling through Australia. Once he had the concept figured, he had returned to America and began laying the groundwork to build the album. Benaroya Hall, Seattle's new symphony hall was literally bricks and mortar in its incomplete stage when Matt approached the Seattle Symphony about his new work. Even though he had never written a symphony before and he didn't have an orchestra, he convinced them to take a chance on him and 7 months later he delivered.

The Symphony, Human, debuted on Saturday, December 5, 1998. The first show was so popular the second concert on Saturday, December 11th sold out! This marked the humble beginning of a symphony composer's carreer.
