In
the summer of 1999, Matt Messina and his Jazz trio released
their debut album. Alongside the Jazz drummer, upright bassist,
and saxophone player was Matt, his piano and his vocal debut.
The album lives on a grander scale than simply four jazz players
as it is supported by a string section and horn section.
This album for
the cocktail hour takes a light approach to the subjects of
romance, love, graces, drinking to excess and even a joke or
2!
November 1997,
Matt released a solo piano album called Chasing the Tide. The
CD release party was held at Seattle's infamous Cloud Room,
on top of the Camlin Hotel. Since this is one of the swankiest
lounges in Seattle, Matt decided to learn a couple songs to
sing after he played the album for fun. That's exactly what
he discovered...FUN!
He began writing
and singing songs in the old style of the Brat Pack, Frank Sinatra,
Dean Martin, and Enrico Pellazzo. Before he knew it, he was
playing & singing the cocktail hour for various Seattle
lounges and piano bars. This wasn't anything I ever needed to
do, I just played because it was so much fun! I love to see
people smile and laugh when they hear these songs. These songs
are all so 'over the top' I love that the old school writers
compared love to mountains and pain to the bottom of the earth.
