Synopsis

Since her beloved husband Frank died, Muriel has lost interest in reality. Now, in an obsessive repetition of their favourite courtship ritual , Muriel flirtatiously drops her handkerchief in front of any man who passes, hoping that, one day, it will once again be Frank who picks it up.

Muriel's retreat from reality comes to a crashing halt when she witnesses the brutal murder of a local postman. Forced to confront the fact that it is no longer 1950 and that, like the dead postman, Frank is never going to come home again, Muriel retreats into a non-verbal state, resisting all help and comfort. One final step to escape from reality takes Muriel to a place where her adored husband will dance with her forever.
